My Baby is a winner!
I thought I would share today the story of how my daughter
has changed. B is now 19, working 2 jobs, has a wonderful boyfriend, enjoys
life and is most importantly HAPPY!
It wasn’t always the case. As the child of divorced parents
(that she wrongly felt was her fault) she took solace in food. We have all
heard of the closet drinker, well she became the closet eater. I would find
wrappers hidden, empty biscuit boxes in her bedroom etc. She always ate healthy
at meal times but what I didn’t know at the time she was taking money and
spending it on junk. She would go to the supermarket (because it was cheaper)
and buy a box of ice creams then proceed to eat them all and throw out the
evidence!
Obviously she gained a lot of weight so by the time she was 15 she
was wearing a size 22. I no longer made or bought cakes, biscuits, chocolate, soft
drinks. We rarely had takeaway etc. but by this stage she would just make her
own when I was at work (you really can’t have a house without flour, eggs, milk
& sugar!) and it would all be gone by the time I got home. She was a sad
angry teenager and I had no idea what to do.
She walked out on school as she
was being bullied due to her weight which just made the destructive circle
worse – nothing I said was right. After some pushing she decided to attend Tafe
and did extremely well in her Business Administration studies. A few months
before she finished she was complaining of a pain in her abdomen so I took her
to the doctor; diagnosis: not sure, treatment: Mylanta. The pain increased so back to the doctor we
went, same clinic different doctor; diagnosis: could be helicobacter (the bug
that causes ulcers) due to stress, Treatment: pain drugs to control then a
breath test for the bug. The pain increased, the drugs didn’t work any more so
back we go again (never got to do the breath test) to the same clinic but a
different doctor; Diagnosis: not sure BUT let’s have blood tests, take X-rays
and have an ultrasound + different pain drugs. Firstly to the pathologist for
blood tests then off we go to the radiologist to discover my 16year old has
GALL STONES. Back to the doctor then off to the surgeon to have her gall
bladder removed. By this time she had lost 8kg mainly due to the fact if she
ate anything containing fats she was automatically in excruciating pain. Even through all this she managed to only miss
a few days of Tafe and passed with flying colours. After applying for what felt
like hundreds of jobs and going for an equal amount of interviews she gave up.
She had no self confidence or self esteem. So back to Tafe she goes to do the
next course in Business Admin, again passing with flying colours and at the
same time making some new friends.
Somewhere in her mind she knew she needed to
lose more weight and slowly but surely it started to go through healthy food
and exercise. She continued Tafe last year to complete her school studies that
she walked out on then started work at MacDonald’s part time then increased her
hours when she finished Tafe as well as getting her driver’s licence and boyfriend.
Today she is still working for Maccas part time (cause they didn’t want to lose
her) as well as full time in an accountants office. She is now wearing a size
14, eats really well, exercises and is happily saving money for her future.
Go Girl, you rock!
