Farmers Markets
Last weekend I was visiting friends in Newcastle and on
Sunday we went to the Markets in Broadmeadow. When I visit I always take an
esky to take advantage of the enormous range of fresh veggies, meat, fruit,
baked goods, olive oils, vinegars, cheeses etc... The taste of this fresh
produce is second to none and well worth the effort to seek a Farmers Market
close to where you live.
At home (in Sydney) go and check out the Eveleigh Markets
(Redfern) they have the most delicious fair and for those Gluten intolerant plenty
of options available.
Below is a list of Markets that was listed (conveniently for
me!) on the ninemsn site this morning.
Rainbow Region Organic Market, Lismore, Northern NSW
Australia's longest running certified organic-only market. It was started in 1999 with the goal of 'feeding local people local food'. It remains focused on sustainability and all produce on sale is grown within 60-kilometres of the market. Tuesdays 8am-11am.Mudgee Farmers Markets, Mudgee, NSW
Enjoy the incredible bounty of Mudgee and purchase farm-fresh food and wine. All produce sold has been grown, reared, caught, pickled, smoked or baked by the stallholders and is strictly sourced from within a 100-mile radius. See where the food came from by going on a 'farm walk'; three farms are visited each month showcasing local producers. Third Saturday of every month.Capital Region Farmers' Market, Canberra, ACT
These markets feature producers from MIA, Batlow, Cowra, Orange, Young-Temora, Western Sydney, Southern Tablelands, Goulburn-Crookwell, South Coast and Monaro, providing the market with a selection of low-food-mile, yet seasonally diverse, produce. You'll find everything from berries from Borenore, olives from Hall, Yass Valley mushrooms, and specialty meats from Grenfell.Talbot Farmers Markets, Talbot, VIC
Known as one of Victoria's best farmers' markets with over 100 suppliers selling everything from locally made flaxseed oil and cheeses, to honey, wine, and organic produce. Third Sunday of every month, 9am-1pm.Kangaroo Island Farmers' Markets, Kangaroo Island, SA
These markets in Penneshaw attract locals and visitors alike. Here, you can sample Kangaroo Island's impressive array of artisanal producers, from organic yoghurt and cheeses to biodynamic eggs, fresh crayfish, handmade cordials, and curry pastes. The location is almost as spectacular as the produce. First Sunday of every month, 9am-1pm.Eumundi Markets, Noosa, QLD
A vast and varied market that sells more than food, but more than enough for any gourmet to be in foodie heaven. Locally made cheese, organic produce, freshly baked bread, for starters, as well as food sellers with dishes ranging from laksa and paella and cakes and lemonade.Fremantle Markets, Fremantle, WA
Sample the best of Western Australia's produce here, from fruits, veggies and fresh seafood to dairy, coffee, herbs, spices and more. There's a good array of organic produce and lots of tasty treats to munch on as you browse. There's even a market bar if all that snacking makes you thirsty. Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday public holidays.Barossa Farmers' Market, Barossa, SA
The Barossa is well-known for its wonderful food and produce and this is a great place to take home some of its finest. Indulge in homemade chocolates and cakes, taste the region's olive oil, and buy farm-fresh meat, vegetables and dairy from outstanding producers. Saturdays 7.30-11.30am.Tas Farm Gate Market, Hobart, TAS
Should you find yourself in Hobart on a Sunday morning this is a prime spot to pick up some of Tasmania's amazing locally grown, produced, baked, smoked or pickled goods, from free-range pork, game meat and sparkling fresh seafood to the stone fruit and apples the area is so well known for. Sundays 9am-1pm.
Try it – tastes like food used to and without most of the
chemicals that we get from a lot of the store bought produce. Good shopping
everyone!!
Cheers :)
