Wife 3 (his sister) is a single 51 year old lady who has never been on a plane before let alone travelled to a destination with such a universally different culture. Her brother has been carrying on for weeks about plane crashes as only siblings can but she really is fine all things considered.

We had a very uneventful flight to Bangkok via Thai Airways who were wonderful to fly with. Food was good (for airline food that is) seats weren't to crushed even in cattle class and the staff were polite and smiling. From Bangkok we boarded another flight to Phuket without incident and with baggage intact.

Anyone who has been to Thailand will know its very humid even when you arrive at night like us so leaving the airport was a bit of a shock. We hadn't booked transport from the airport to the Hotel so we went via what we would class as a Maxi Taxi. BAD MOVE! They shoved as many as would fit into the van then piled all our luggage around us to then drive us to their office to see who they could get to book tours! All us wives were a little pissed off and husband was ropable (I don't think they appreciated me sitting in the van, leaning over the seat and hitting the horn either but too bad).

We eventually arrived at our hotel the 'Bann Laimai' opposite Patong Beach around 9pm, dropped our bags in the rooms and ventured out for a taste of Patong at night. We ended up having an hour long foot massage that ended at midnight. The rooms are well appointed and considering it has cost us under $700 for our 8 night stay including a full breakfast it's a bargain.
