Day 2 – It is confronting to work out what to talk about
first!
Today we hear all about ‘low fat’ products, good fat v
bad fat, how good fat can turn into bad fat with processing (found this fact to
be alarming! – reference Dr Ross Walker Cardiologist) etc etc etc. The one
thing we do know for sure it the body NEEDS fats to reproduce cells. There is
plenty of research into the value of Olive Oil (must be good quality though)
being the reason for the lack of heart disease in many European countries as
well as lowering the risks of cancer so until someone comes up with new research
saying the opposite this should be added to our daily diet. Today I have been
reading an article about Avocado’s. It is nothing new that the humble Avocado
is a great substitute for butter on a sandwich, tasty addition to a salad,
makes a wonderful dip etc but new research
conducted in Mexico, has demonstrated the oil's power to combat destructive
rogue oxygen molecules. These unstable ''free radicals'' wreak havoc in the
body, triggering chain reactions that destroy cell membranes, proteins and even
DNA. The phenomenon is one of the prime drivers of ageing and believed to play
a major role in damage to arteries and cancer. So we have another reason to eat
FRESH produce (not that we really need one). The less processing the better, in
other words the way nature delivered it, not in a tube, tub or any other such
way. Enjoy!
If you have a
favorite Avocado recipe to share please sent it to me so I can share.
Bye for today –

Avocado happens to be my favorite fruit of all time. In my culture, which is Mexican American, we have a tradition, called a Quinceanera, similar to an English Society Ball or American Sweet 16. I had to lose weight for my party and ate the following dish for three months and loved every minute:
ReplyDeleteGuacamole: You take onions, tomato, and fresh cilantro, not the dried kind, and add some sea salt. If you like tanginess, you can add lemon, but I like to taste the avocado. You let that mixture sit for fifteen minutes, then you add the avocado. I like to take a butter knife and slice my avocado in many ways then use a spoon to take the avocado out. You can buy a wheat tortilla if they have them near to where you live, or if not look for a recipe because they taste amazing and pair with your favorite meat to make a taco. Enjoy
