The Block then Tackle

After the furious Twitter reaction on Sunday evening about one couple breaking the rules on the reality TV show it made me wonder how many of us break the rules when renovating. I made comment to one of the Sydney newspapers last week about an article where a couple wanted to renovate their apartment and wondered why they needed to contact the council and ask their body corporate for their permission. It really depends on the scope of the work that is to be done.

Most of us are aware we can maintain or renew our homes without permission as this comes under the maintenance banner but I’m quite sure there are a lot of pergolas, decks and bathroom renovations where walls or drainage has been moved without permission. It doesn’t matter what you are doing around your home there is noise restrictions that need to be adhered to that are commonly ignored. How many of us have heard the drop saw going late into the night because the guy down the road is building a pergola or deck and has all his mates over to help not to mention the BBQ and beers following when they finally do finish. I must admit I was one of those ‘mates’ when we built a deck with a ramp at a friend’s house. Kay could no longer manage the back stairs from their house due to her MS (we also put small ramps in the house for her wheel chair).

Remember the Block is a TV reality GAME show. I am an avid Blockhead and look forward to my 7 o’block every night.

In my other life I am involved in the Building & Design Industry and last week we had a trade show called DesignEx. I have included some photos (where I was allowed to take photos).

Thanks to Judy Reed and Sharon Kwan, two old friends I have not seen in such a long time xx
